  • Shark cage diving in Gansbaai, South Africa with Marine Dynamics. Experience the exceptional and come face to face with a great white shark! 

  • The exact world record white shark is a contested issue, but chances are it is between 6-7m. In Gansbaai, the largest white shark ever caught was at Danger Point and measured up to 5.9m.

  • If you see a white shark in the water don’t panic. Chances are high that the shark has already detected you and isn’t interested. White shark attacks are normally associated with poor visibility, so avoid murky conditions.

  • White sharks have a unique system called a “counter current heat exchange”, which keeps their body  tempreture +/- 7C above the surrounding water temperature. 

  • All sharks have an incredibly unique system on the tip of their nose called the “ampillae of Lorenzini”. These are small pores filled with a gel that transmits the electrical currents in the water to the shark’s brain so that it can assess its environment.

  • White sharks give birth to live young (not eggs), and they give birth to 6-8 pups at one time. Pups are usually between 1.0-1.5m in length and are born with teeth.

  • Body language has been a well documented form of shark communication and has identified body arching, jaw gaping, and other postures as specific social tactics.

We had an awesome trip with amazing shark and bird activity at sea. We had an enormous flock of cape cormorants fly pass and keep us company throughout the trip. These birds are easy to recognise by their black bodies and the orange colouration around their beaks! The sharks gave us some amazing launches out of the water! Today we had double the fun, the boat ride was super exciting due to the swells and there was tremendous shark activity. The visibility in the water had room for improvement. This was likely caused by the heavy weather we had the previous day. To be able to see 10 sharks in what is considered to be the quiet season was fantastic! I can’t wait to see what tomorrow has in store for us!

We had an amazing time today on the boat! There were several sharks having a field day with the bait and decoy lines, which we use to attract the sharks attentions and not to feed them. We did have a couple of quests who found themselves suffering from “motion distress”, but they were happy to take the water taxi back to land after their dive. Our sharks ranged in size from 2.5m to big 3.5m animals. It was truly a great day, many jaw dropping moments...

Today had the possibility for disappointment because the sharks decided to keep as waiting longer than usual. However, we had a massive 4m male arrive to break the silence! Thereafter a frenzy of sharks arrived to keep us entertained, up to four at a time. We were fortunate to have some bottlenose dolphins arrive on the scene as an extra bonus. All and all the trip ended on a high note and I’m sure that’s the impression that will stay with the quests. Fantastic weather today!

Today was amazing visibility in the water. There was a large female shark present today who gave some fantastic launches out of the water! She was almost 4m in length, a real treat for the quests. The sharks were great and stayed around for a long time, which made the rotations in the cage very easy! The trip started off very slow and I did have my doubts at the start, but I ended up being pleasantly surprised. We had a couple of competitive sharks who were loving the attention from the clients! Rosi made her scheduled appearance and played her part. We made a stop at dyer Island to view the penguins, as an extra treat, which was great. The weather was great and the group on board were full of questions. All and all it was a good day!
