  • Shark cage diving in Gansbaai, South Africa with Marine Dynamics. Experience the exceptional and come face to face with a great white shark!

  • The exact world record white shark is a contested issue, but chances are it is between 6-7m. In Gansbaai, the largest white shark ever caught was at Danger Point and measured up to 5.9m.

  • If you see a white shark in the water don’t panic. Chances are high that the shark has already detected you and isn’t interested. White shark attacks are normally associated with poor visibility, so avoid murky conditions.

  • White sharks have a unique system called a “counter current heat exchange”, which keeps their body  tempreture +/- 7C above the surrounding water temperature.

  • All sharks have an incredibly unique system on the tip of their nose called the “ampillae of Lorenzini”. These are small pores filled with a gel that transmits the electrical currents in the water to the shark’s brain so that it can assess its environment.

  • White sharks give birth to live young (not eggs), and they give birth to 6-8 pups at one time. Pups are usually between 1.0-1.5m in length and are born with teeth.

  • Body language has been a well documented form of shark communication and has identified body arching, jaw gaping, and other postures as specific social tactics.

Today we had a special treat on our trip! Former South African cricket player Jonty Rhodes joined us on board! He looked very prepared for the adventure he was about to embark on, I’m  sure that’s due to his many years of experience in test matches! The sharks seemed to be very intimidated by his presence, as soon as he got in the cage they all disappeared! They however returned in full force to give the rest of our guests an experience to remember! Thanks Great whites for giving us a show...

Thanks for the nice quest comments guys, I really appreciate it! Today we had lots of sunny weather, but unfortunately the wind started to pick up later through the day. This caused our visibility to go down dramatically! We had an amazing sighting of a sting ray on the portside today, it was a huge one! I only wish it stayed around longer, but with big sharks swimming around I fully understand why it left! We had lots of 2m sharks today and a couple of our regular big boys stopped by to say “hello”! Good day...

We did not go shark cage diving today, it was more like bird watching! The sharks spent more time outside of the water than they did inside of it! It was a fantastic day! We were also very fortunate to see bottlenose dolphin all around the boat! To put the cherry on top of the cake we spotted a massive sunfish off the portside of the boat! For those of you who were not aware of it, these fish are the largest bony fish and can reach sizes up to 3 tons! I was forced to brush up on my Norwegian, but luckily I was able to compensate with my German! We will always try our best to accommodate your language of choice, to the best of our abilities!

To be able to see four sharks at a time in front of the boat was absolutely amazing! The trips had amazing activity for the supposed low season! They gave us a great show! It was clear that these big guys don’t play well with others in the way that they avoided each other around the bait line! Everybody was in good spirit, especially because the water was relatively warm! Not quite bath water yet though...

We had an early start today for some of our quests and it took some effort to get their eyes open! Luckily we had our very reliable sharks to take care of that. As soon as the first sharks arrived on the scene people were full of excitement! The children on board just proved that Marine Dynamics can cater to all ages, as seen in the pictures. The visibility in the water has improved substantially from the previous day, which gave our underwater photographers great pics!

We were fortunate to launch our cage at two different areas today! The first gave us a great view of a 3.5m shark at Wilfred’s rock with amazing visibility. Thereafter we settled in at Joubertsdam for the long haul! The sharks just couldn’t stop coming, one after the other they were demonstrating their aerial acrobatics as you can see in the photos. Absolutely amazing...
