  • Shark cage diving in Gansbaai, South Africa with Marine Dynamics. Experience the exceptional and come face to face with a great white shark!

  • The exact world record white shark is a contested issue, but chances are it is between 6-7m. In Gansbaai, the largest white shark ever caught was at Danger Point and measured up to 5.9m.

  • If you see a white shark in the water don’t panic. Chances are high that the shark has already detected you and isn’t interested. White shark attacks are normally associated with poor visibility, so avoid murky conditions.

  • White sharks have a unique system called a “counter current heat exchange”, which keeps their body  tempreture +/- 7C above the surrounding water temperature.

  • All sharks have an incredibly unique system on the tip of their nose called the “ampillae of Lorenzini”. These are small pores filled with a gel that transmits the electrical currents in the water to the shark’s brain so that it can assess its environment.

  • White sharks give birth to live young (not eggs), and they give birth to 6-8 pups at one time. Pups are usually between 1.0-1.5m in length and are born with teeth.

  • Body language has been a well documented form of shark communication and has identified body arching, jaw gaping, and other postures as specific social tactics.

It was fantastic to see the sun out in spectacular fashion once again, the past few days were just too cold and wet for my liking :)! We had an awesome group of clients on board who were more than eager to see some sharks and boy did we deliver! We barely had the cage tide down when the first shark decided to make its appearance, creating the perfect anticipation for the dive to come! Our first cage was packed with the more scare-prone individuals! As soon as the shark arrived in front of the cage Ryan let out a very girly scream, not to worry my friend it happens to the best of us :)! The largest shark was 3.9 meters in length and gave some fantastic passes! The trip itself was brought to an end in spectacular fashion with the sighting of two Southern Right Whales on our way back! This in conjunction with the Humpback Whales spotted this morning officially opens our whale watching season! This is hopefully just the start of things to come...

Today was the best visibility I have encountered whilst in Gansbaai! The warm crystal clear water made for the most spectacular dive. Shark action was impeccable and non stop from arrival to departure, with over twenty sharks ranging in size from 2.8m to 4.8m.

Winter has arrived! We had some chilly conditions on our early launch today, but we also had an awesome sunrise with our launch! The sharks were able to raise the body temperature of several clients which made the cold temperatures bearable! It was great to have such a wide range of shark sizes in front of the cage; ranging from 3 meters all the way to “Slash Fin” who was in the range of 4.8 meters! It’s great to see him still hanging around the Island and even better when he decides to pay us a visit! We were also very fortunate to spend some extra time around Geyser Rock; this allowed us the opportunity to spot African Penguins on two separate occasions! Fantastic wild life in the area...

What a phenomenal day! We were graced with exceptional weather conditions and amazing shark activity! We barely had to wait two seconds for our first pair of sharks to arrive on the scene! After that they just kept coming and stayed throughout! The visibility was initially about ten meters, however as the trip progressed it decreased significantly with time. The visibility was still very good, but not exceptional. We had a range of ages amongst our clients, both young and mature and everyone had a good time! A fantastic trip...

After 4 months of being patient, I finally saw my first official predation take place! It was incredible to see Mother Nature doing her thing! We had phenomenal shark sightings with loads of sharks making an appearance. The largest shark was about 3.9 meters in length and very active. I was so happy to be able to show our clients these amazing animals and the breach was just the cherry on the cake! I’m speechless...
