  • Shark cage diving in Gansbaai, South Africa with Marine Dynamics. Experience the exceptional and come face to face with a great white shark!

  • The exact world record white shark is a contested issue, but chances are it is between 6-7m. In Gansbaai, the largest white shark ever caught was at Danger Point and measured up to 5.9m.

  • If you see a white shark in the water don’t panic. Chances are high that the shark has already detected you and isn’t interested. White shark attacks are normally associated with poor visibility, so avoid murky conditions.

  • White sharks have a unique system called a “counter current heat exchange”, which keeps their body  tempreture +/- 7C above the surrounding water temperature.

  • All sharks have an incredibly unique system on the tip of their nose called the “ampillae of Lorenzini”. These are small pores filled with a gel that transmits the electrical currents in the water to the shark’s brain so that it can assess its environment.

  • White sharks give birth to live young (not eggs), and they give birth to 6-8 pups at one time. Pups are usually between 1.0-1.5m in length and are born with teeth.

  • Body language has been a well documented form of shark communication and has identified body arching, jaw gaping, and other postures as specific social tactics.

Today was a unique and interesting day on the water! We were joined exclusively by the national junior Dutch cricket team and their guardians! They were all very excited about the prospect of seeing great white sharks in the wild. The sharks however kept us waiting a bit longer than usual today, it was only after persuading the boys to sing to the sharks that they decided to make an appearance. We had another large 4 meter shark around the boat all to ourselves, due to the fact that we were the only vessel out on the water today! Our tailor made boat makes it much easier to endure large swells on the water. Some of our guests suffered from temporary “motion distress”, but that did not prevent them from entering the cage! Great stuff Holland...

Are White Sharks "warm-blooded" or "cold-blooded"?

White sharks are part of the fish family, so they must be 'cold-blooded', right?  Actually, white sharks are much more complex than you may think. Check out this shark blog to find out about 'heterothermy' and how that makes white sharks the apex predator in our seas.

Yet again ‘Marine Dynamics shark cage diving’ put the predictions of the weather man to the test! Even though all the other company’s cancelled their trips today, we were able to enjoy all of the sharks all to ourselves! Our boat is specifically designed both for safety and for shark diving purposes. Our experienced crew were up early this morning in order to determine how the weather was going to develop. They made the right call again and we had an amazing time. We had three large sharks in the area that kept coming and coming... ‘Woundy’ being one of the large sharks, joined us again today and he was amazing. The gulls were also making their presence known today and I was fortunate enough to capture them feeding. The guest were great, some of them have been waiting ten years in order to check this of their bucket list. I am glad I could be a part of it! It was a great day...

We had an old friend pay us a visit today for the first time this year! ‘Woundy’ is a massive 4.2 meter shark who was giving a great show today. It made a number of passes by the cage allowing everyone to view the shark from on board, as well as in the cage! We had fantastic activity from the sharks today. It is always great to see the excitement on everyone’s faces when the sharks start to move up the chum line! The kids were very eager about seeing these great animals in their natural environments, which I fully understand! Great stuff...

Hahaha Wow! We had eleven sharks around the boat today and what was even more fantastic was the fact that about 4 of the sharks were in the 4m range! These were some of the biggest sharks that I have seen in a while! It is always great when people see a 2m great white shark for the first time and they cannot believe how big it is! It is even better when they see a 4m shark directly thereafter and they are completely speechless. Our resident sting ray also paid us a visit today and this time he really went for the bait! The guests couldn’t believe that a ray could get that big! The water temperature was eventually the cherry on the cake, at 21.2 ‘C it was almost like a “jacuzzi”! A great day today...

Today we had both young love on board as well as young sharks in the water! I must be a romantic at heart, but nothing says ‘I love you’ like taking your partner on a shark cage diving trip! We had some aerial activity from these fantastic great whites once again, as well as some big splashes! The weather was also amazing today, providing adequate opportunity for everyone to get that golden brown complexion! Amazing trip on a calm Sunday morning!
