  • Shark cage diving in Gansbaai, South Africa with Marine Dynamics. Experience the exceptional and come face to face with a great white shark!

  • The exact world record white shark is a contested issue, but chances are it is between 6-7m. In Gansbaai, the largest white shark ever caught was at Danger Point and measured up to 5.9m.

  • If you see a white shark in the water don’t panic. Chances are high that the shark has already detected you and isn’t interested. White shark attacks are normally associated with poor visibility, so avoid murky conditions.

  • White sharks have a unique system called a “counter current heat exchange”, which keeps their body  tempreture +/- 7C above the surrounding water temperature.

  • All sharks have an incredibly unique system on the tip of their nose called the “ampillae of Lorenzini”. These are small pores filled with a gel that transmits the electrical currents in the water to the shark’s brain so that it can assess its environment.

  • White sharks give birth to live young (not eggs), and they give birth to 6-8 pups at one time. Pups are usually between 1.0-1.5m in length and are born with teeth.

  • Body language has been a well documented form of shark communication and has identified body arching, jaw gaping, and other postures as specific social tactics.

What a fantastic day! The visibility was the best that I have seen in ages, that in conjunction with amazing sharks is a winning combination. The sharks arrived very quickly today and we had the first clients in the water before you could say ‘shark’! We had eleven large sharks, with one shark in particular showing all his pearly whites all the time. It spent more time outside of the water than in it :)! The water temperature drop has not gone unnoticed by the guests, however after a couple of minutes one gets use to it! Beautiful sharks, great visibility and awesome people made today a great trip...

Wow! We had a truly amazing time at sea today. The day started off on a wet note with heaps of rain, fortunately for us we were on a well equipped vessel. We simply released the side tarps and that protected us from all the rain, being the largest shark diving boat in South Africa has its perks! The rainbow was a good sign for us; the shark activity was very high with very close passes by the cage! The visibility in the water was amazing for most of the trip allowing for marvellous viewing, the rain offers some advantages. The sharks were passing time and time again and were all in the size range of about 3.5 meters. After the rain had moved on we were greeted by beautiful flat seas! It was an adventure packed day...

It was an extremely eventful trip today with lots to see. We were being invaded by swarms of blue bottles (only 3) and they made an interesting conversation topic for quite some time! Our infamous “Big Nemo” made an appearance to the delight of the crew, she really isn’t the pretty’s girl in the water, but she’s still fantastic! All our sharks were more or less 3.5 meters in length today except for our final shark of the day who was 4 meters in length. The sharks were not us energetic and jumpy as usual, but they compensated by giving some REALLY close passes by the cage. On our way back to harbour we were treated with a bryde’s whale sighting, these ‘small’ whales frequent this area very often and it is always a treat to see them! A great day...

We had an abundance of sharks today and some phenomenal passes by the cage! We weren’t kept waiting at all today, the sharks were very punctual for a change :)! The sharks varied in size today with the largest being 4 meters. We had guests from all over the world and that always makes it interesting to see how different people respond to these animals. We had some screams, laughter and even our “smaller” guests started to fall asleep. We sighted some box jellies in the water today which was an added bonus! A very experience rich trip...

What a very special day it was on the boat today! We were celebrating a honeymoon with some newlyweds as well as having a party with one of our birthday girls on board! The shark sightings were very active and we barely had to wait 5 minutes for them to arrive! We had several large sharks today with the largest being 4 meters. The increase in wind gust resulted in a large drop in visibility in the water; however the sharks were very accommodating in this regard by simply coming closer to the cage :)! A couple of interesting sightings, other than the sharks of course, were some peculiar jellyfish in the water! I am still going to find out the species name, but if anyone knows its name please comment on the blog! I have added a photo of one of our local Gannets as well! A very entertaining day today...
