Daily trip 07 March 2012

It is absolutely fantastic if you have the sharks waiting for you on the water when you arrive! If every trip starts off like today I will be needing a larger memory card for my camera. We had fantastic weather today and even better sharks. Our old friend “chopper” made an appearance today and he seems to be getting bigger every time I see him! It is truly incredible at what rate these animals can heal from a serious injury. Even though one can still see the scars on the animal, it is much less prominent than before. We had very enthusiastic guests on board; they were keen to stay in the cage until tomorrow! Sorry guys, we only offer that package over the weekends :)! Awesome time...
Why are white sharks in South Africa?

We all know why sharks are in South Africa, but why? This blog goes into exactly why we have these great animals in our waters.

What an incredible day out on the water! We barely had to wait 5 minutes for the sharks to arrive on the scene! Our crew member, Warren, had his hands full when handling the bait line. One shark in particular was keeping him occupied in the way which it kept chasing after the bait. It was fantastic to watch the game of cat and mouse between the two! The sharks today were very jumpy and spent much of their time out of the water, great for some photo opportunities! Our largest shark today was a massive 4.1 meter gentle giant who came to inspect the boat and then went about his business. The trip out to Dyer Island afterwards gave everyone an appreciation for the beautiful and abundant biodiversity in the area, which is one of our main goals by doing these trips! Great day...

Another successful trip aboard Slashfin this afternoon, sharks arrived quickly and were in top form. We sighted three or four large sharks including bent fin who arrived for a short cameo to wow us with her size before heading off for other sharkey business in the reefs. Other sharks of note were Quickie and the resighted shark from last year with deep scars on her head. Both sharks were literally flying today and keeping Peter on his toes - breathtaking stuff! 10 sharks in total with a size range of under 2 to over 4 meters in total length.

We had a fabulous assortment of sharks today, ranging in size from the “small” 2 meter sharks all the way to the big 4 meter ones! We had very lively sharks all throughout the trip which made it difficult for guests to keep up with their cameras! :) I was very impressed to see how long some of our guests could keep holding their breath; the visuals were too good for them to think about coming up for air! Great stuff! I wish I could take all the credit for the amazing day, but it’s all thanks to the majestic Great Whites! A really special day!

What a fantastic day aboard Slashfin. It was a quiet start to the trip
and we waited for the first 30 minutes to see a shark. It was
definitely worth the wait as once they arrived we absolutely cooked!
Several familiar fins were sighted including the big shark with the
bent fin and at the end Chopper appeared and made his presence felt
with several lunges at the bait. Nine sharks were sighted in total and
activity was stunning! It was nice to have Joubertsdam return to flat
calm conditions after big swells the day before.
