  • Shark cage diving in Gansbaai, South Africa with Marine Dynamics. Experience the exceptional and come face to face with a great white shark!

  • The exact world record white shark is a contested issue, but chances are it is between 6-7m. In Gansbaai, the largest white shark ever caught was at Danger Point and measured up to 5.9m.

  • If you see a white shark in the water don’t panic. Chances are high that the shark has already detected you and isn’t interested. White shark attacks are normally associated with poor visibility, so avoid murky conditions.

  • White sharks have a unique system called a “counter current heat exchange”, which keeps their body  tempreture +/- 7C above the surrounding water temperature.

  • All sharks have an incredibly unique system on the tip of their nose called the “ampillae of Lorenzini”. These are small pores filled with a gel that transmits the electrical currents in the water to the shark’s brain so that it can assess its environment.

  • White sharks give birth to live young (not eggs), and they give birth to 6-8 pups at one time. Pups are usually between 1.0-1.5m in length and are born with teeth.

  • Body language has been a well documented form of shark communication and has identified body arching, jaw gaping, and other postures as specific social tactics.

The South Easter was howling today! Despite the wind we had some great sunny conditions with amazing sharks! The majority of the sharks today were in the range of 4 meters and bigger. The visibility was a bit limiting today, but our bait handlers did an awesome job of luring the sharks nice and close to the cage, everyone saw the sharks. After the shark dive came to an end we made our way back to the harbour. It was just outside the harbour where we spotted two Southern Right Whales having a very “GOOD” time! It was amazing to see such large animals copulating! I’m glad the whales didn’t suffer from stage fright...

Today was one of those chilly days, where it would have been a bad idea to not to pack in an extra sweater! Despite the cold weather, we had great shark activity and our waiting time was only 10 min before the first three sharks were “knocking” on the cage. We also had one shark with a bit of a scar on the left of its face who was very content to just keep jumping all over the place! We had a sighting of the shark with the large prop scar again today; it’s still looking a bit fresh still. After some amazing shark acrobatics we had the treat of spotting a Southern Right Whale not too far from the boat! Always a treat to see these big animals...

The sun was out in full force today creating a typical holiday vibe on the boat with everyone just eager to lie around in the sun. The only thing preventing them from falling asleep on board was the massive shark activity! Even though we didn’t post record numbers of sharks, they were real players who just loved coming up close to the cage. We had another sighting of the shark who was hit by a prop and the scar it left behind. I will try to add a photo onto the blog every time I spot the shark! We can hopefully have a nice account of the healing process! Get well soon my friend...

We definitely had one of our winter days out at sea today, with the overcast and windy conditions making it quite chilly. Luckily the best thing after a nice shark dive is putting on some warm dry clothes! The sharks were nice and big, with the largest one being in the range of 4.5 meters. Always great to see such a big shark around the cage and even better to hear everyone’s reactions! AWESOME :)! Lovely bunch of people on board today, both young and not so young! Thanks for joining us...

What a day at sea! On our second trip we had some very impressive and Big sharks! Several were around the 4 meter margin; however it was one of the smaller sharks that just kept flying out of the water! Great pic moments! We did have a shark today that was baring a massive scar, my best guess would be that it was from a boat prop, cannot be sure though it made a quick pass! Hope to see this wound heal nicely in the future! The best way to end a shark trip is to spot some whales on the way and that’s exactly how we did it! Two Southern Right whales gave us a proper send off! Thanks guys...
